Southern Volleyball picked 13th in MIAA preseason coaches poll

Kansas City, Mo. --  The Missouri Southern volleyball team has been tabbed to finish 13th in the 2012 MIAA Preseason Coaches Poll the league announced today. 

The Lions, under second-year coach Trish Knight, finished tenth a season ago in the MIAA and return three starters and four letter winners from a season ago. 

Last year's MIAA defending Co-Champion Washburn sits atop the coaches poll. The Lady Blues earned seven first-place votes while last year's other Co-Champion Central Missouri, earned four first place votes to get the second-place spot. MIAA newcomer Nebraska-Kearney earned two first-place votes and was picked third. Emporia State was fourth, followed by Truman, Pittsburg State, Northwest Missouri, Fort Hays, Missouri Western, Lindenwood, Southwest Baptist, Central Oklahoma and Southern. 

The Lions open up the 2012 season on Aug. 31 and Sept. 1 at the Pitt State Tournament. Southern will play Illinois-Springfield and Rockhurst on day one and will finish up with William Jewell and Harding on day two.
