Maryville, Mo. -- The Missouri Southern Volleyball team took a 2-1 lead going into the fourth set, but Northwest Missouri won the final two sets to take the match three sets to two today. Individual set scores were 19-25, 25-19, 28-26, 18-25 and 12-15.
Southern (4-18, 2-8 MIAA) hit .467 in the second set to win 25-19 and held out the win in the second set to win in extra points. The Lions tied the set at 23, 24 and 25 and trailed 26-25, but scored the final three points of the set to win. The fifth set featured six tied scores, the final at 12 all, before Northwest scored the final three points to take the match.
The Bearcats (10-12, 4-5 MIAA) had five different players with double-figure kills led by 22 from Abby Graves as she hit .356 for the match.
Casey Ball had a team-high 21 kills on the match to lead the Lions. Sydney Potts had a double-double with 44 assists and 14 digs, while Rocky Crook had a match-high 26 digs. Elin Skei had 15 digs, while Danielle Severns had ten kills and ten digs.
The Lions will be back in action on Wednesday, October 26, playing host to Pittsburg State in a Sonic Trophy Series match. First serve is slated for 7 pm from Young Gymnasium.
