Joplin, Mo. -- The Missouri Southern volleyball team took a set off of 13th ranked Truman State, but the Bulldogs proved to be too much and the Lions fell in four sets tonight. Individual set scores were 15-25, 25-21, 17-25, 19-25.
Southern (7-4, 0-2 MIAA) was led offensively by Renee Rheinecker as the sophomore had a match-high 13 kills. Ashlee Russell had ten kills and ten digs, while Jeanna Feldmann, starting for the first time in her career at libero, had a match-high 15 digs. Elin Skei had 31 assists and six digs.
Truman (11-2, 4-1 MIAA) was led by Megan Sharpe and Allison Barker, both of whom had 12 kills each. Barker added 13 digs.
The Lions hung in with the Bulldogs in the first set as the match was tied at nine all, but Truman went on a 16-6 run to end the set. Southern played hard in the second set and limited Truman to a .097 attack average and after the Bulldogs tied the set at eight, the Lions took a 9-8 lead on a kill from Rachel Olinyk. They would not trail from that point on in the set.
Truman dominated the final two sets, trailing only once in the two sets.
The Lions will be back in action tomorrow afternoon, playing host to Missouri Western. First serve is slated for 2 pm in Young Gym.
