Southern women strong at Williams/Laptad Invite
Joplin, Mo. -- The Missouri Southern women's track and field team picked up six individual and team wins, while also pulling down six provisional marks today at the Bill Williams/Bob Laptad Invite held at Fred G. Hughes Stadium in the Robert W. Plaster Sports Complex.
Whitney Hardy continued her solid jumping with a win in the high jump, clearing 5-03.25, while Shelby Sutherland was sixth. Melanie Bower and Ashley McFarland both cleared provisional heights of 11-11.75 in the pole vault, but Bower won on fewer misses. Sydney Haase was fourth in the event.
Kaylee Morgan took home the title in the long jump with a provisional distance of 19-04.25, while Brittani Reagan hit a provisional of her own with a second-place distance of 18-11.25. Taitum Mead was third, while Emily Paullus placed sixth.
Reagan won the triple jump with a solid provisional distance of 38-09.50, while Mahogany Jones was second. Kylie Cornman took home the title with a provisional distance of 47-03.75 in the shot put, while placing fourth in the hammer and 11th in the discus.
Taylor Alumbaugh was eighth in the Javelin, while Addie Mengwasser placed fourth in the 1,500m. The 4x100m relay team of Paullus, Jasmin Hughes, Reagan and Morgan placed first in a time of 49.01, while Maggie Tennal was seventh in the steeplechase.
The Lions will be back in action next weekend, as Southern takes part in the 2013 MIAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships held at Fort Hays State University. The multi events begin on Friday with the rest of the meet taking place on Saturday and Sunday.
