Columbia, Mo. -- Missouri Southern sophomore Melanie Bower was the top Division II performer and picked up a provisional in the pole vault today as the Lions competed at the Missouri Invitational at the Hearnes Center on the campus of the University of Missouri.
Bower vaulted to a height of 11-11.75, which was the winning height, but she placed third on fewest misses. The height ranks her 14th in Division II and tops in the MIAA. Sydney Haase and Ashleigh McFarland placed fourth and fifth in the event.
Sydney Potts won her heat in the 800m and placed fourth in the event with a time of 2:20.34, while Addie Mengwasser placed 11th. Kaitlyn Belisle was the top Division II athlete in the 3k with a time of 10:19.00, while Marlee Tegenkamp was fourth.
Jasmin Hughes was third in the 200m with a time of 26.00, just a tenth of a second off of a provisional. Hughes was 11th in the 60m dash, while Mengwasser placed seventh in the mile. Jackie Wallice placed 8th in the 60m hurdles in a time of 9.18, while Amber White was 12th in the 400m. Jet Hovis placed ninth in the 1000m run, while Shelby Sutherland and Whitney Hardy placed seventh in the high jump.
Kylie Cornman placed seventh in the shot put with a provisional distance of 44-2, while placing 14th in the weight throw. Brittani Reagan placed fourth in the triple jump with a provisional distance of 38-6, while placing fifth in the long jump. Mahogany Jones, White and Shelby Newell placed 10th-12th in the triple, while Taitum Mead was eighth in the long jump.
The Lions will be at Kansas a week from tonight, to compete in the KU Invitational.
