2011-2012: Indoor: Won the pole vault at the MIAA Championships with a vault of 3.75m (12-03.75) while competing in the 200m (25.81) ... Took second in the pole vault at the UCM Classic with a vault of 3.4m (11-01.75) while also taking second in the 200m in 26.25 ... Won the pole vault at the MSSU Invite with a vault of 3.4m (11-01.75), while taking fifth in the 200m in 26.31... Took second at the Lion Open with a vault of 3.4m (11-01.75) ... Outdoor: Took first in the pole vault at the Emporia State Twilight Meet in 3.73m (12-2.75) ... Ran 26.04 in the 200m at the MIAA Championships ... Took third in the 200m at the Pitt State Classic in 25.09 ...

Prior to Southern: Attended Linn High School and competed for her father, Tim in track and field. A four-year letterwinner in both track and cross country, she was an All-State selection in cross country her freshman, sophomore and senior years, while earning All-Conference and All-District honors four-times. On the track, Bower was an All-Conference and All-District selection in the pole vault, 1600m, and the 4x200m relay, as well as the high jump in her freshman season. As a sophomore she was All-Conference in the pole vault, 1600m 300m hurdles, and high jump, while being named All-District in the events, as well as All-State in the pole vault. As a junior she was All-Conference and All-District in the pole vault, 100m 200m, 300m hurdles and 1,600m relay, while picking up All-State honors in the pole vault placing second, as well as the 1600m relay (4th) and the 300 hurdles (8th). She holds the school record in the pole vault (10-3), as well as the 4x200m and 4x400m relays. Also a four-year starter on the basketball court at LHS, she was an All-District pick in both her sophomore and junior campaigns.

Personal: Undecided in her future major at Southern, Melanie is the daughter of Tim and Suann Bower.
