Three of the top four in the pole vault highlight day two of 2012 MIAA Women's Track and Field Championships

Emporia, Kan. -- The Missouri Southern women's track and field team placed three athletes in the top four of the pole vault and the Lions are in second place after day two of the 2012 MIAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships in Emporia, Kan. 

Melanie Bower won the pole vault with a provisional height of 12-4.75, which ranks her eighth nationally in the event. Vanessa Langford was second and earned All-MIAA honors, as well with a height of 11-5, while Ashleigh McFarland placed fourth. 

Lisa Vengels placed fifth in the heptathlon with a provisional of 4,856 points and setting a new school record in the process. Emily Paullus was tenth in the event.

Jasmin Hughes qualified in both the 100m and 200m, placing fourth in the prelims of the 100m and second in the prelims of the 200m. JeAnna Sheppard qualified for the finals of the 100m hurdles, while Kaitlyn Belisle was fifth in the 10k with a time of 38:49.99. 

Nicole Green placed ninth in the discus, while Lindsey Bragg, Taitum Mead, Gayla Booth and Paullus placed 12-13-14-15 in the long jump. 

Day three of the Championships will begin tomorrow morning at 10 am.
