Nicole Green hits huge mark in the shot put at Williams/Laptad
Joplin, Mo. -- Missouri Southern senior thrower Nicole Green hit a huge mark in the shot put tonight as the Lions competed at the Bill Williams/Bob Laptad Invitational at Fred G. Hughes Stadium.
Green won the shot with a distance of 14.77m to pick up the third-highest throw in Division II this season and provisionally qualify. She was just under two inches from an automatic qualifying mark in the event. Lisa Vengels and Emily Paullus placed eighth and ninth in the shot. Green placed fourth in the hammer throw with a mark of 44.66m, while placing sixth in the discus.
Vengels won the high jump with a provisional height of 1.71m, while Shelby Sutherland and Whitney Hardy placed fifth and seventh. Amber White picked up a provisional in the triple jump with a third place finish at 11.66m, while Mahogany Jones and Shelby Newell placed sixth and seventh. Lindsey Bragg and White placed fourth and sixth in the long jump.
Vanessa Langford placed sixth in the pole vault with a provisional height of 3.70m, while Ashleigh McFarland, Melanie Bower and Sydney Haase all placed ninth in the event. Vengels and Paullus placed sixth and seventh in the javelin, while Emily Weldin and Taylor Parris placed second and third in the 400m.
Taitum Mead placed second in the 400m hurdles with a time of 1:06.75, while Jasmin Hughes, Bower and Weldin placed 5th, 7th, and 8th in the 200m dash. JeAnna Sheppard, Vengels and Mead placed 3-5-6 in the 100m hurdles, while Schrader, Lauren Sanders and Codi Fritchie placed 2-8-11 in the 800m.
Cassy Kendrick placed fifth in the 5k, while the 4x100m relay team of Bragg, Hughes, Weldin and Bower placed second with a time of 48.10. The 4x100m relay team of Sagan Graskemper, Vengels, Alex Close and Green placed third.
The Lions will be back in action next weekend competing at the MIAA Track and Field Championships in Emporia, Kan.
