Green and Vengels shine at Arkansas

Fayetteville, Ark. -- Missouri Southern seniors Nicole Green and Lisa Vengels had strong performances as the Lions competed at the John McDonnell Invitational today at the University of Arkansas. 

Green won the shot put with a provisional toss of 45-10. She also finished sixth in the hammer (140-04), and 8th in the discus (128-06). 

Vengels equalled her automatic qualifying mark of a week ago in the high jump with a height of 5-8.75, placing third. Shelby Sutherland was eighth in the event. 

Amber White, Emily Paullus and Shelby Newell placed 7-8-9 in the long jump, while White, Mahogany Jones, Newell and Paullus placed 5-6-8-9 in the triple jump. 

In the sprints, Jasmin Hughes paced 14th in the 200m with a time of 25.15, while Emily Weldin and Taylor Parris were 21st and 22nd in the 400m. Rachel Schrader placed 12th in the 1,500m with a time of 4:36.50, while Paullus was ninth in the 400m hurdles. Codi Fritchie placed second in the 3k steeple with a time of 11:36.64. 

The Loins will be back in action next Friday as the Lions play host to the annual Bill Williams/Bob Laptad Invitational at Fred G. Hughes Stadium.
