Women's track opens up outdoor season at Pittsburg State
Pittsburg, Kan. -- The Missouri Southern women's track and field team opened up the outdoor season today with Wendy's Open Invitational at Pittsburg State University.
Nicole Green picked up provisionals in both the shot put and discus today. Green finished fourth in the shot with a distance of 45-09.00, while Kylie Cornman was fifth in the event with a provisional distance of 44-09.50. Green was fourth in the discus with a distance of 137-10, while Cornman placed 14th. Cornman was 11th in the hammer throw.
Lisa Vengels won the high jump with a provisional height of 5-6, while Shelby Sutherland was third. Vengels also won the 100m hurdles with a time of 15.23, while Taitum Mead and Emily Paullus placed fourth and fifth.
Jasmin Hughes placed second in the 100m and 200m dash, while Emily Weldin, Mahogany Jones and Sagan Graskemper placed fiffth, ninth and tenth in the 200m. Taylor Parris and Weldin were second and third in the 400m, while Amber White, Graskemper and Jones placed sixth 11th and 15th in the event, as well.
Rachel Schrader won the 800m and 1,500m, while Lauren Sanders placed fifth in the 800m. Mead and JeAnna Sheppard were third and fourth in the 400m hurdles, while Codi Fritchie and Maggie Tennal placed second and seventh in the 3k steeple. The 4x400m relay team of Hughes, White, Parris and Weldin placed third. Paullus, Mead and White placed 2nd, 3rd and 4th in the triple jump, while Jones and Gayla Booth were 7th and 8th.
The Lions will be back in action next weekend at Emporia State.
