Pittsburg, Kan. -- Lisa Vengels tied her own school record and automatically qualified for the D-II National Meet at the Gorilla Classic hosted by Pittsburg State today.
Vengels hit a height of 5-9.75, tying her own school record she set last year at the MIAA Outdoor Championships, ironically on the same track as today. The mark is tops in Division II this year. Gayla Booth was fifth in the event.
Vanessa Lankford won the pole vault with a height of 11-8, while Vengels was second in the 100 hurdles with a time of 15.17. JeAnna Sheppard was fifth in the hurdles.
Kelly McKay was second in the 200m (25.15) and third in the 400m (56.93). Carita Riutta and Sagan Graskemper placed 8th and 9th in the 400m, while Lindsey Bragg and Tia Cook was 14th and 16th in the 200m.
Gayla Booth and Brandy Simpson were fourth and fifth in the long jump, while Bragg placed 7th. Simpson placed fourth in the javelin. Nicole Green was third in the shot with a provisional distance of 45-9, while placing 8th in the discus.
Codi Fritchie and Victoria Kline placed 6th and 8th in the 1,500m, while Olga Bulgurova was third in the 800m in a time of 2:20.63. Kasey Meadows and Elizabeth Corcoran were 8th an 9th in the 400m hurdles, while Sheppard placed 12th. The Lions 4x400m relay team placed third in a time of 4:04.49.
Southern will be back in action this week in three different events, taking part in the KU Relays on Thursday, Friday and Saturday, while also taking part in events at Central Missouri and Arkansas on Saturday.
