Fayetteville, Ark. -- Missouri Southern juniors Lisa Vengels and Nicole Green both picked up a provisional mark in their respective events today as Vengels won the high jump and Green was second in the shot at the University of Arkansas Spring Invitational.
Vengels went 5-7 in the high jump winning a jump off with the University of Oklahoma's Kristen Rice. Gayla Booth placed seventh in the event.
Green was second in the shot put with a distance of 46-3.5, trailing only Kansas' Jessica Maroszek. The mark for Green is the best in the MIAA so far and it is second-best in Division II at this point. Kylie Cornman was third in the event with a heave of 44-10.25.
Kiley Jones was fourth in the discus with Green placing sixth, while Green was third in the hammer throw. Jones, Cornman and Lauren Jones placed sixth, seventh and eighth in the event.
In other action, the 4x400m relay team placed eighth, while Lindsey Bragg and Brandy Simpson finished seventh and tenth, respectively in the long jump. Booth placed ninth in the triple jump. Carita Riutta was 15th in the 800m run, while Olga Bulgurova placed 23rd. Jasmin Hughes and Tia Cook were 17th and 18th in the 100m dash, while Hughes and Kelly McKay placed 18th and 19th. McKay and JeAnna Sheppard were 14th and 15th in the 400m dash, as well.
Marlee Tegenkamp placed 18th in the 3k with a time of 10:48.17, while Sheppard and Brandy Simpson were 13th and 14th in the 100m hurdles. Kasey Meadows and Elizabeth Corcoran were 16th and 17th in the 100m hurdles, while placing 14th and 15th in the 400m hurdles.
The Lions will be back in action again next weekend, traveling to Emporia State on Saturday.
