Women's track finishes third at 2011 MIAA Indoor Track and Field Championships

Warrensburg, Mo. -- The Missouri Southern women's track and field team finished third and secured the Sonic Trophy Series Point today in the final day of the 2011 MIAA Indoor Track and Field Championships at the University of Central Missouri. 

The women had 73 team points, besting PSU by 23 points. Lincoln won the team title with 113 points, followed by Central Missouri with 81. 

Ashley Bunch continued her strong weekend with a title in the 3k, earning All-MIAA status with a time of 10:12.94. She also finished third in the mile with a time of 5:05.85, while Rachel Schrader placed fourth. 

In other action, Lisa Vengels placed second in the high jump with a provisional height of 5-7.25, earning All-MIAA status, as well. Nicole Green was fourth in the shot put with a provisional distance of 45-1.50, while Kylie Cornman was 8th in the event.

Olga Bulgurova and Carita Riutta were 5th and 6th in the 800m with times of 2:20.40 and 2:20.45, respectivley. Jasmin Hughes placed sixth in the 200m with a provisional time of 25.42. 

In all, the Lions had eight different individuals in six events earn All-MIAA status at the championships. The complete list is below. 

Southern will now wait to see which individuals have qualified for the 2011 NCAA Indoor Championships.
