Southern women qualify for nationals with third place finish at Regionals

Warrensburg, Mo. -- The Missouri Southern women's cross country team has qualified for nationals for the fourth-straight year after a third place finish at the 2010 NCAA Division II South Central Regional meet at the University of Central Missouri today. 

The Lions placed third behind champion Pittsburg State and second place Midwestern (Texas) State. All three teams will qualify for the national meet in Louisville. 

Leading the charge for the Lions was senior Silvia Pineda as she raced to a sixth-place finish with a time of 22:38.47 over the 6k course. Sophomore Marlee Tegenkamp placed 12th with a time of 22:54.29, while freshman Rachel Schrader was 25th. Freshman Nicole French and senior Ashley Siler placed 43rd and 44th, respectively as Siler was competing for the first time since a third-place finish at last year's national meet. 

Seniors Olga Bulgurova and Victoria Kline placed 48th and 54th, respectively. 

Also joining PSU, Southern and Midwestern at the national meet will be Abilene Christian's Anais Belledant, Nebraska-Omaha's Anja Puc and Katarina Zarudnaya, and Truman State's Karen Grauel as individual qualifiers from the region. 

The Lions will compete at the 2010 NCAA Division II National meet in Louisville on December 4.
