Kansas City, Mo. - Senior defender Dana Wilhelm was named the MIAA Women's Soccer Defensive Athlete of the Week, as announced by the conference office today.
Helping the Lions notch a pair of shutouts on the opening weekend of MIAA play, the St. Louis native played a key role in Southern tying Central Oklahoma in a scoreless draw Friday and securing a 2-0 win over previously unbeaten Northeastern State Sunday.
The Lions' defense would face a combined 41 shots from the Bronchos and RiverHawks, including 20 on goal, without allowing a goal. In addition to playing solid defense all weekend, Wilhelm would notch the game-winning goal against NSU in the 48th minute while coming up with a huge block in the match against the Riverhawks as she would deflect a shot-on-goal attempt by NSU to preserve the shutout for the Lions.
The Lions return to action Friday when they travel to Fort Hays State to take on the Tigers at FHSU Soccer Stadium at 7 p.m.
