Lions soccer drops 2-1 decision to Augustana (S.D.)

Joplin, Mo. - The Lions soccer team fell 2-1 in a hard-fought match to NSIC member Augustana (S.D.) in non-conference action this afternoon at Hal Bodon Field.

With the Vikings (1-1) getting on the scoreboard first with a goal less than two minutes away from halftime and notching another one right after the break, the Lions (0-2) would find themselves behind 2-0 before atttempting a late rally.

In the 80th minute of play junior forward Katelyn Roberson would score her first goal of the year on a header that would find the back right corner of the net to cut the Vikings' lead in half. Sophomore forward Karley Thomas would pick up her second assist of the year on the play. Despite a late rally from Southern, the Lions were unable to notch the tying goal.

Southern would fire off seven shots from five different players on the afternoon while goalkeepers Abby Risner and Beth Hammons would each secure three saves apiece.

The Lions continue non-conference action Friday when they hit the road for the first time this year traveling to Bethany, Okla. to face Great American Conference member Southern Nazarene from Wes Harmon Field at 7 p.m.
