Lions kicks off season with 2-2 tie vs UMSL

St. Louis, Mo.- The Missouri Southern soccer team escaped Don Dallas Field this afternoon with a 2-2 tie against the UMSL Tritons.

With the Tritons getting on the board first with a goal in the eighth minute, the game was halted at the 21-minute mark for a 25-minute tornado warning delay.  Despite the early setbacks, the Lions were able to overcome those obstacles and tie up the score 1-1 in the 32nd minute when Michaela Altvater scored her first career goal as a Lion with an assist from Missouri State transfer Tiffany Laughlin

The Lions made it 2-1 in the 66th minute when last year's top returning scorer Megan Stueve notched her first goal of the season with an assist from St. Louis native junior Dana Wilhelm.

The Tritons tied it up in the 85th minute sending the game into overtime.  After a scoreless first overtime, neither team was able to capitalize on their lone shot in the final ten minutes.

The Lions return to action Sunday when they travel to Quincy University (IL) to take on the Hawks at North Campus Field. Game time is scheduled for noon.
