Weathers Sets New Career High As Lions Defeat Evangel, 68-46

Joplin, Mo. -- Freshman guard Haley Weathers set a new career high for points scored, 16, as the Missouri Southern Lions Women's Basketball team (3-1) defeated perennial NAIA power Evangel Lady Crusaders (1-3) 68-46 in Joplin Monday night.

The Lady Crusaders got off to a fast start opening the game with a 3-0 lead at the 18:52 mark from there on it was all Missouri Southern as the Lions built their largest lead of the game, 24 points, at the 8:15 mark of the second half.

The Lions were led by junior guard Kelby Fritz with 18 points, two shy of her career high mark of 20 last year at Nebraska Omaha, and Weathers with 16.  Junior guard Tatianna Washington led the way for Southern in rebounding with six boards, while sophomore forward Jessica Bell added five.

Southern will next be in action this weekend in the annual Pizza Hut/Fairfield Inn Thanksgiving Classic as they host Newman University Jets (4-0) on Friday at 7pm and Arkansas-Ft. Smith Lady Lions (2-2) on Saturday at 3pm.
