Lions Softball Drops a Pair to the Jennies, 8-0 and 4-1
Warrensburg, Mo. – The Missouri Southern Lions (15-30, 4-10 MIAA) were swept by the Jennies of Central Missouri (23-26, 8-10 MIAA) 8-0 in six innings and 4-1 in the night cap.
Southern got multi-hit games from sophomore Shelby Romines and freshman Brooke Swadley as the Lions tallied seven hits on Central Missouri pitching. Seniors Breanna Volkmann, Brianna Fulkerson, and Brooke Hurley gathered the other three hits for Missouri Southern.
Sophomore Haley Pypes (9-8) got the start and went three innings allowing six runs, five earned, on five hits with two strike outs. Junior Hannah Cooke pitched the final 2 2/3 innings in relief allowing two runs, both earned, on four hits.
Romines hit a solo home run in the visitor half of the fourth for the lone Lions run on the day while going 1-for-2 in the game. Fulkerson and Swadley recorded the other two hits for Southern in the night cap.
Junior Kayce Moore (3-10) got the start for the Lions and went 5 2/3 innings allowing four runs, all earned, on five hits with two strike outs. Cooke came in relief pitching 1/3 of an inning allowing no runs on no hits and striking out one UCM batter.
On The Day
Romines and Swadley were the big winners for the Green & Gold both going 3-for-5 at the dish to account for six of the Lions 10 hits on the day.
The Lions travel to Southwest Baptist on Wednesday afternoon for a make-up date with the Bearcats. First pitch is scheduled for 2pm.
