Joplin, Mo. -- The Missouri Southern Lions (5-16) dropped a pair of games today to the visiting University of Central Oklahoma Bronchos, 6-5 and 6-0, at Lea Kungle Field at the Robert W. Plaster Sports Complex.
The first game of the double header saw the Lions take a 5-3 lead into the final frame before UCO's Kacie Edwards would connect for a go ahead three run home run to deep right field.
In the game the Lions saw a 3-0 lead erased in the top of the fifth as the Bronchos plated three runs on three hits with one Lions error.
Southern's highlights in the game included a two out rally in the first inning sparked by senior Lydia Neimegeers double to left followed by a RBI single up the middle by senior Brooke Hurley. In the third inning the Lions' rally started with the lead off batter as senior Breanna Volkmann singled to left and was followed by a successful bunt by senior Brianna Fulkerson that advacned Volkmann to third. Fulkerson would then steal second base and both Fulkerson and Volkmann would score on a single to center by Hurley.
The fifth inning featured a double by Volkmann who would then score on a double by Neimegeers. Neimegeers would then score on a single to center by Hurley to finish out the Lions scoring.
Junior Kayce Moore got the start for the Lions and went 4 2/3 innings giving up three runs, all unearned, on seven hits while striking out four and walking none. Romines would get the loss for Southern giving up the go ahead three run homerun in the top of the seventh and sophomore Arlisa Arwood finished the seventh allowing no runs and striking out one.
