Joplin, Mo. -- Missouri Southern junior sprinter Jeff Fraley won the men's high point award and the men's track and field program narrowly missed out on a team title at the 2014 MIAA Indoor Track and Field Championships held at the Leggett & Platt Athletic Center in Joplin this weekend.
Fraley won both the 60m and 200m today after qualifying tops in both events. He raced to an automatic qualifying time of 6.74 in the 60m and hit another AQ in the 200m with a time of 21.60. Erron Holley placed fourth in the 200m and sixth in the 60m.
Eric Schott nearly pulled out a win in the 3k a day after winning the 5k. He leaned in at the last inches and missed out winning the event by a thousandenth of a second, but earned All-MIAA honors for the effort. Tyler Rush was 8th in the event, while Colton Wooldridge placed 10th and Alex Mason and Andrew Webster placed 13th and 14th.
Rush placed second in the mile in a time of 4:16.78 to earn All-MIAA status, while Jazz Allen picked up All-MIAA honors in the 60m hurdles placing second in the event with a provisional time of 8.19.
Clark Tanksley was 13th in the high jump, while Nicklas Polizzi and Bryan Burns placed 9th and 13th in the shot put. Anthony Price was fourth in the 400m dash with a provisional time of 49.64, while Miles Migliara placed 6th in the 800m.
The mile relay team of Fraley, Price, Holley and Migliara placed sixth in a time of 3:21.56.
Fraley scored 20.75 points overall to take home high-point honors with the next-highest individual being 1.25 points behind.
The point differential between the Lions and team champion Pittsburg State was just a a point and a half as PSU scored 130.5 points and the Lions trailed with 129. Nebraska-Kearney was third with 115.2, while Central Missouri was fourth. Lincoln was fifth, while Emporia State, Southwest Baptist, Lindenwood, Northwest Missouri and Fort Hays State round out the team scores.
In total, the Lions had four event winners and 15 All-MIAA performers. The full list of All-MIAA performers is listed below. Southern will wait to see who has qualified for nationals that will be held on March 13-15 in Winston Salem, NC.
