Jayce Thomas in fifth place after day one of the decathlon at MIAA Championships

Hays, Kan. -- Missouri Southern sophomore Jayce Thomas is in fifth place after day one of the decathlon at the 2013 MIAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships hosted by Fort Hays State University. 

Thomas started the day finishing 11th in the 100m dash, but rebounded to place second in the long jump with a distance of 22-09. He placed 12th in the shot put, and finished his day with a win in the high jump (6-08.25) and a 13th place finish in the 400m. 

He has 3,418 points after day one and sits 393 points away from first place. 

Thomas will finish the final five events of the decathlon tomorrow morning at 10 am. He will race in the hurdles, the discus, the pole vault, javelin and 1,500 meters.
