Southern men pick up nine wins and 12 provisionals at Williams/Laptad
Joplin, Mo. -- The Missouri Southern men's track and field team was strong today as the Lions hosted the Bill Williams/Bob Laptad Invitational at Fred G. Hughes Stadium in the Robert W. Plaster Sports Complex.
The Lions picked up nine individual and relay wins, while securing 12 provisional marks throughout the course of the day.
Jeff Fraley picked up a win and a provisional 200m with a time of 21.23. He added a strong provisional in the prelims of the 100m dash where he was the top time of 10.44, but decided not to run in the finals. The time ranks 11th in Division II.
Michael Juergens nearly cleared 17 feet again, but won the pole vault with a provisional height of 16-09.25. Raymond Woldtvedt was second in the vault with a provisional height of 15-09.25, while Brady Melugin placed fourth.
Taylor McClelland won the long jump with a provisional distance of 23-10.25, while Tylor Albright, Darion Boure, JJ Jones, Jacob Rowe and Clark Tanksley all placed in the top nine in the event. Boure picked up a provisional in the triple jump as he was second with a distance of 48-2.75 and Jones was third with a provisional of 47-11. McClelland, Jayce Thomas and Rowe placed fourth, fifth and eighth in the event.
Dustin Green had a provisional in the discus with a second-place throw of 170-04, while Nicklas Polizzi was second. Green won the hammer with a provisional distance of 190-09, which currently ranks 13th in Division II. Seth Hackney won the shot put with a provisional distance of 55-00.00, while Green was second with a provisional toss of 54-09.25. Evan Moore placed fourth.
Jazz Allen picked up a win and a provisional in the 110m hurdles finishing in a time of 14.62, while Thomas was third. Miles Migliara placed third in the 1,500m run, while the 4x100m relay team of Anthony Price, Fraley, Tanksley and Erron Holley won the event with a provisional time of 40.99.
Nathan Henry placed eighth in the steeplechase, while Price was second in the 400m dash. Holley won the 100m dash in a time of 10.72, while Logan Garrett was third in the 800m and Allen was fourth in the 400m hurdles. The 4x400m relay team of Fraley, Tanksley, Holley and Price won the event in a time of 3:16.04.
The Lions will be back in action next weekend, as Southern takes part in the 2013 MIAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships held at Fort Hays State University. The multi events begin on Friday with the rest of the meet taking place on Saturday and Sunday.
