Jake Benton named CoSIDA Academic All-District
Joplin, Mo. -- Missouri Southern sophomore distance runner Jake Benton has been named Academic All-District by the College Sports Information Directors of America as announced today by the organization.
To be given this honor, a student-athlete must have a cumulative 3.30 GPA and be of at least a sophomore in academic standing. Student-athletes in the in the district include the MIAA, Lone Star Conference, Great American Conference and Heartland Conference. Benton currently maintains a perfect 4.00 GPA in kinesiology and his name will now be placed on the national balot for Academic All-America.
Jake has been a two-time member of the MIAA Academic Honor Roll. He has been twice named Academic All-MIAA and named an MIAA Presidential Scholar, as well. A two-time member of the MSSU Dean's List, Benton was an All-MIAA and All-Region selection in cross country this year after helping the Lions to a second-place finish at the MIAA Conference Meet.
He was also named to the All-Academic team by the US Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association.
