Jayce Thomas in third place in the pentathlon after day one of MSSU Lion Open

Joplin, Mo. -- Missouri Southern's Jayce Thomas is in third place after the first day of competition in the heptathlon at the MSSU Lion Open held at the Leggett & Platt Athletic Center. 

Thomas Thomas won the pentathlon high jump with a height of 6-5.5, while placing third in the long jump and fourth in the shot put and 60 meter dash. He is in third place after day one with a point total of 2,553. 

In other action, Dustin Green was fourth in the weight throw with a distance of 49-05.75, while Quentin Smith qualified for the finals of the 60m hurdles, placing third in the prelims with a time of 8.36.

Taylor McClelland, Darion Boure, and Clark Tanksley were 8, 9, and 10 in the long jump, while Jacob Rowe placed 15th. The distance medley relay team of Alex Mason, Clark Tanksley, Sam Pogue and Colton Wooldridge placed second with a time of 10:33.93. 

Jeff Fraley qualified for the finals of the 60m dash, while placing fourth in the 200m. Anthony Price placed 8th in the 200m. Eric Schott placed fifthin the 3k with a time of 8:43.71, while Andrew Webster and Jake Benton placed 8th and 11th in the event. 

The Lions will be back in action tomorrow finishing up both day two of the heptathlon and the rest of the meet.
