Golf in sixth place after day one at Broncho Invite

Oklahoma City, Okla. --  The Missouri Southern golf team improved its second-round score by 22 strokes over the first-round and the Lions sit in sixth place after day one of the 2014 Broncho Invite, hosted by the University of Central Oklahoma at Gaillardia Country Club. 

Ethan Hutcheson shot an 81 in round one, but followed that up with a 74 in round two to finish with a 155 and tied for 26th overall. Ryan Buerk is two strokes back and is tied for 32nd at 157, while Ryan Russell shot a 159. 

Taylor Lansford finished with a 162, while Andrew Maier shot a 164. Phillip Roller, playing as an individual, shot a 172. 

Central Oklahoma is six strokes in front of second-place Central Missouri as the Bronchos shot a team total of 587 through two rounds. Northeastern State is in third place, 15 strokes off the lead, while Nebraska-Kearney and Lindenwood round out the top five. Southern is sixth followed by Missouri Western, Fort Hays, Lincoln, Washburn, Pittsburg State and Southwest Baptist is 12th. 

This meet is the first of two MIAA sanctioned point events of the spring. The final point event will be the MIAA Tournament on April 21-23. 

The Lions will play one more round of 18 tomorrow morning to finish up the tournament.
