Southern golf in fifth place after day one at Arkansas Tech

Danville, Ark. -- The Missouri Southern golf team is in a tie for fifth place after day one of the Dave Falconer Memorial Invite hosted by Arkansas Tech University at Chamberlyne Country Club.

Junior Ryan Buerk and senior Ryan Russell shot a first-round 73 and are both tied for tenth after round one. Senior Andrew Maier and sophomore Ethan Hutcheson shot a 76 and a 77, respectively and freshman Taylor Lansford finished with a 79. Sophomore Skyler Arbuckle shot an opening round 83. 

Henderson State and Arkansas Tech are tied for first with a team total of 287, while Southern Nazarene and Southwestern Oklahoma State sit five and six strokes off the lead, respectively. Southern is tied with Harding and Northeastern State as all three schools shot a 299, 11 strokes back. 

Southern Arkansas is eighth followed by Southeastern Oklahoma, Pittsburg State, Missouri Western, Washburn, Bemidji State, Augustana, Drury, Ouachita Baptist and South Dakota Mines to round out the team totals.

The Lions will be back in action tomorrow with one final round.
