Southern golf in 8th place after day one of UCM Heart of America Tournament

Warrensburg, Mo. -- The Missouri Southern golf team is in eighth place after day one of the 2013 UCM Heart of America Tournament, held at Keth Memorial Golf Course. The tournament is the last MIAA points event of the fall season. 

Junior Ryan Buerk is tied for 21st with a 36-hole total of 147. He shot a 73 in round one and 74 in round two. Freshman Taylor Lansford shot the Lions' low round of the day as he had a two-under 69 in the first round. He finished with a total of 148 and is tied for 27th with his teammate Andrew Maier. Maier shot a 77 in round one and 71 in round two. 

Ethan Hutcheson improved seven strokes from round one to round two to finish with a total of 155, while Garrett Roberts shaved 15 strokes off of his round one total to finish with a 36-hole total of 167. 

Central Missouri took 12 strokes off of its team total in round two, shooting a one-under 283 as a team to lead after day one. Arkansas Tech is in second place, four strokes off the lead and Nebraska-Kearney is in third, just three strokes behind ATU. Northeastern State is in fourth, while Lindenwood, Southeastern Oklahoma, Washburn, Southern, Central Oklahoma and Central Missouri's 'b' team is tied with Lincoln to round out the top ten team totals. 

The Lions will finish off the tournament with 18 more holes tomorrow.
