Southern golf finishes in 7th at Pittsburg State Invitational

Pittsburg, Kan. -- The Missouri Southern golf team finished in seventh place today at the 2012 Pittsburg State Invitational at Crestwood Country Club. The tournament serves as the first MIAA points event of the year. 

Junior Andrew Maier led the way for the Lions with a two-round total of 150, good enough to finish tied for 13th. Ryan Buerk shot a 151 to finish tied for 15th, while Elliot Soyez and Ben Starkey tied with a 155. Adam Johnson and Ethan Hutcheson both carded a 159, while Ryan Russell and Gil Williams shot a 160. 

Garrett Roberts shot a 167, while Fabian Oechsle finished with a 170 Senior Andy Hogenmiller shot a 73 on day one, but had to withdraw today after suffering back issues. 

Washburn won the team title with a two-day total of 591. Central Oklahoma finished with a 597, while Central Missouri (601), Lindenwood (604) and Nebraska-Kearney (605) rounded out the top five. Fort Hays shot a 608, while Southern (614), Northeastern State (616), Pittsburg State (618), Lincoln (619) Missouri Western (623) and Southwest Baptist (626) round out the team scores. The Lions' second team in the tournament shot a 628. 

Southern will be back in action on September 24th and 25th at the Northeastern State Invite.
