Topeka, Kan. -- The Missouri Southern golf team shot a first-round 300 and sit in a tie for second place after day one of the Washburn Ichabod Invitational at Topeka Country Club.
The Lions were led by Ryan Russell who shot a two-over 73 today and is tied for eighth place overall. Jared Essary carded a 74, while Gill Williams shot a 76. Ben Knight shot a 77, while Adam Johnson and Fabian Oechsle shot an 80 and 83, respectively.
Fort Hays is in first place in the team standings, just one stroke in front of Southern who sits tied with Lindenwood. Nebraska-Kearney is in fourth, tied with Washburn at 301, while Central Missouri is in sixth at 302. Newman is seventh, followed by Northeastern State, Pittsburg State, Southwest Baptist, Missouri Western and Lincoln to round out the field.
The Lions will finish off the tournament tomorrow.
