Edmond, Okla. -- The Missouri Southern golf team improved by six strokes in the second round yesterday, but slipped from seventh to 13th in the final round today at the Kickingbird Classic hosted by Central Oklahoma on Kickingbird Golf Course.
Sophomore Andy Hogenmiller led the Lions three-round 221 and was tied for 26th. Junior Seve Smith shot a 225, while junior Jamie Voegeli and senior David Eddy shot a 230 and 231, respectively. Sophomore Jared Essary shot a 236, while senior Chris Needham fielded a three-round 240.
Abilene Christian shot ten strokes better than second place Cameron and overtook the Aggies on the final day to win by six strokes. Central Oklahoma was third, followed by Midwestern State, Newman, Barton, Southeastern Oklahoma, West Texas A&M and Washburn to round out the top ten.
Southwestern Oklahoma, Texas A&M Commerce, Southern, Southwest Baptist, East Central, Missouri Western and Lincoln were 11th through 17th.
Cameron's Jason Timmis won the individual medalist with a three-round, five-under par 205. He defeated second place Cyrill Bouniol of Abilene Christian by two strokes.
The Lions will be back in action next week when Southern plays host to the MSSU Spring Invitational at Twin Hills Golf and Country Club on Monday and Tuesday.
