Edmond, Okla. -- The Missouri Southern golf team improved its round two total by six strokes and shot its third-lowest team score of the season as the Lions are in seventh place after the first two rounds at the Kickingbird Classic hosted by Central Oklahoma at Kickingbird GC in Edmond.
Southern shot a 296 in the opening round today and improved to a 10-over 290 in the second round to move from 11th to seventh place after day one.
Sophomore Andy Hogenmiller shot a 71 and 72 for a three over 143 and was tied for 17th to lead the Lions. Senior David Eddy shot a six over 146, while sophomore Jared Essary and juniors Seve Smith and Jamie Voegeli shot a 150, 151 and 152, respectively. Senior Chris Needham shot a 154 playing as an individual.
Cameron and Abilene Christian shot lights out as a team as Cameron leads the field after two rounds with five-under 555. ACU is four shots back, while Central Oklahoma, Midwestern State and St. Edwards round out the top five. Southeastern Oklahoma and Southern are sixth and seventh, respectively, while Barton, Newman and Southwest Baptist are tied for eighth.
The Lions will conclude the tournament tomorrow morning with the final 18 holes.
