Men's basketball falls 76-57 at Arkansas-Fort Smith

Fort Smith, Ark. -- The Missouri Southern men's basketball team led at halftime tonight at Arkansas-Fort Smith, but UAFS shot lights out in the second half and defeated MSSU 76-57 in non-conference action. 

Southern (3-1) led 34-32 at the break as after trailing by as much as ten at the ten-minute mark of the first half, the Lions went on a 10-0 run over the next two minutes to tie the game at 19 after a layup from Blaine Miller

UAFS (1-2) scored the next six points to go up 25-19, but the Lions went on a 15-7 run to end the half and went into the locker room up 34-32. 

Southern led 36-34 after a layup from Matt Everson just two minutes into the second half. Fort Smith pushed its lead to five (43-38) with 15:14 to go and after Southern got to within one (43-42) after a dunk from Jordan Talbert with 13:40 to go, UAFS went on a 19-3 run to go up 62-46 to put the game away. The lead would be as high as 20 with two minutes left in the game. 

Southern was led in scoring by Talbert's 16 points on 7-14 shooting and ten rebounds. Marquis Addison scored 13, while Everson added ten points and five assists. 

The Lions out shot UAFS 42.2 percent to 40.5 percent in the first half, but Fort Smith shot 68 percent in the second half to put the game away. 

Southern will be back in action this weekend as the Lions travel to Canyon, Texas to participate in the West Texas A&M Thanksgiving Classic. Southern will take on 20th ranked West Texas at 8 pm on Friday and will then face off with Eastern New Mexico at 4 pm on Saturday.
