Jefferson City, Mo. -- The No. 23 Missouri Southern men's basketball team raced out to a 12 point halftime lead and cruised to a 90-64 win tonight at Lincoln University in Jefferson City.
Southern (17-5, 9-5 MIAA) was led offensively by 18 points from Jason Adams as the senior hit three early three pointers and added eight rebounds. Marquis Addison scored 16 points and Jordan Talbert added 13 points and nine rebounds, while Keane Thomann had a double-double with 12 points and 12 rebounds.
Lincoln (3-16, 3-10 MIAA) had 16 points and 10 rebounds by Cedric Riddle, while Terrell Williams scored 12 points.
The Blue Tigers scored the game's first three points, but the Lions responded and soon led by ten (21-11) after a three pointer from Addison with 12:15 left to go in the first half. A dunk from Adams with just under seven minutes to go made the score 32-20 and the lead would reach 16 (40-24) after a jumper from Hester with 3:13 left in the half. Lincoln would score the final four points of the half and the Lions led 40-28 at the half.
The Lions soon extended their lead to 20 after a three-point play from Adams made the score 55-35 with 15:33 left in the game. The lead for the Lions was 33 (77-44) after a pair of free-throws with 7:37 left. A layup from Morgan Smith with 2:11 left in the game gave the Lions their largest lead of the night at 34 (89-55).
Southern out rebounded Lincoln 52-37, while the Lions shot 49 percent from the field. Southern out scored Lincoln 32-20 in the paint.
The Lions will be back in action this Saturday when Southern plays host to Missouri Western at 7:30 pm in the Leggett & Platt Athletic Center. The game will be the Fifth Annual Cancer Awareness Night.
