Jefferson City, Mo. -- The 12th ranked Missouri Southern men's basketball team opened up a 47-28 halftime lead and cruised to a 91-64 win tonight at Lincoln University in Jefferson City.
Southern (17-2, 13-2 MIAA) was led in scoring by Jason Adams with 22 points on 8-12 shooting from the field and 4-5 from the free-throw line. Keane Thomann scored 17, while pulling down eight rebounds and Marquis Addison chipped in with 12 points. Skyler Bowlin nearly missed out on a double-double with eight points and ten assists.
Lincoln (2-15, 0-15 MIAA) was led by Cedric Ridle with 21 points, while Derek Stokes and Matt Morris scored 14 and ten, respectively.
The Lions opened up a five point lead after a three from Adams made the score 11-6, four minutes in. A three from Bowlin with 14:36 left capped a 6-0 run and put the Lions up 17-6. Lincoln got within seven (21-14) after a free throw from Derek Stokes, but that would be as close as the Blue Tigers would get. The Lions ended the half on a 26-14 run and went into the locker room up 47-28.
After the Lions opened up a 20-point lead in the second half, (56-36) two three's from Lincoln cut the lead to 14 and forced a Southern timeout. The lead for the Lions moved back to 81-56 after a pair of free throws from Jordan Talbert with just over six minutes left. The lead would eventually balloon to 29 after a dunk by Talbert made the score 85-56 with 4:23 left.
The Lions dominated the paint tonight, out scoring Lincoln 48-30. Southern shot 68 percent from the field (34-50), while limiting Lincoln to just 38 percent.
Up next for the Lions will be a Saturday night game at Missouri Western. Tip off is slated for 7:30 pm.
