Kansas City, Mo. -- After helping to lead the Missouri Southern football team to a 21-14 win over Central Missouri this past weekend, Lions' sophomore quarterback Jay McDowell has been named the MIAA Offensive Player of the Week, the league announced today.
McDowell, a 6-1 native of Covington, La., rushed for 225 yards on the night, becoming the first Southern quarterback to rush for over 200 yards since Josh Chapman had 246 against Missouri-Rolla in 2002. He was 5-10 through the air for 69 yards.
The Lions racked up 427 yards rushing and nearly 500 overall in the win over the Mules.
McDowell and the Lions will be on the road this week as the Lions venture out of the MIAA to take on South Dakota Mines on the road. Kickoff from Rapid City, SD will be slated for 2 pm central time, 1 pm mountain time.
