Southern football adds 11 for 2013

Joplin, Mo. -- Missouri Southern football coach Daryl Daye has announced the addition of 11 players to his 2013 football squad. The list includes mainly players from the junior college ranks, but also includes a four-year transfer and two high school student-athletes.

Below are short bios of each student-athlete

Drew Phillips – 6-0 – 185 – RB – Boaz, Ala. – College of the Canyons

Phillips will be a sophomore in eligibility at Southern after playing one year at College of the Canyons in California where he was an All-Conference pick … Last year as a freshman, he saw action in ten games … he rushed the ball 77 times for 365 yards and two scores, while catching 19 passes for 251 yards and three touchdowns … he was the team's primary kick returner and had 27 returns for 729 yards and two scores, while returning two punts, as well … A decorated high school athlete out of Boaz High School, he was a three-year starter for coach Drew Noles … A three-time All-County selection, Phillips was also a two-time All-Region and All-State Pick, while earning region MVP honors as both a junior and a senior ... Phillips rushed for 5,575 rushing yards in his career and had 36 career rushing touchdowns … He holds the school record for career rushing yards, rushing attempts, rushing touchdowns, yards per game, and points scored, while holding the single-season record for rushing attempts and yardage where he holds the top two spots in each category … He was also a state champion in the 400m and 4x400m relay ... He is the son of Joe and Michelle Phillips.

Terrance Allen – 5-10 – 190 – RB – Junction City, Kan. – Butler CC

As a prep, Allen played for Coach Randall Zimmerman at Junction City HS … he was an All-Region, All County, and All State as a junior, while earning All Region, All County, and All State Senior ... he was also a team captain … At Butler, Allen was an All-Conference selection playing for coach Troy Morral … Allen is the son of Pamela Monroe and William Allen

Josh Jones – 6-3 – 195 – WR – Altadena, Calif – Citrus CC

Jones prepped at Maranatha High School for coach Joel Murphy … He earned second team All-Area honors  and first team All-Olympic honors as a senior, while earning second team All-Alpha League honors as a junior. At Citrus, he played for coach Ron Pociano and was All-Conference and a two-year starter. He is the son of Linda Haley

 Ronald Pierre - 6-2 - 235 – LB – Orlando, Fla. – Golden West College

A team captain at Boone High School in Orlando, Pierre was an All-District selection his junior seasion, while earning All-Disrtict, All-Region, and All-State honors as a senior … at Golden West College, he was coached by Nick Mitchell … An honorable mention All-Conference linebacker and Rivals.com 2-star recruit … As a sophomore, he had  63 tackles, ten for loss, three sacks, two forced fumbles and blocked two punts on special teams he was the defensive co-captain. He is the son of Marie Exinor and Cedoine Pierre.

Stevin Gomez  - 6-2 - 193 – CB – Freemont, Calif. – Foothill CC

Gomez prepped at Irvington high and was a four-year letter winner on both the football and basketball teams … He was a first team All-District, All-West Coast and All-State pick as a senior, while being named one of California's elite 100 defensive backs … Gomez played at Foothill CC and for coaches Doug Boyett and Kelly Edward .. He was an All-Conference and All Nor-Cal pick last season … Gomez is the son of Cynthia and Randell Gomez.

Darien Anderson – 6-1 – 190 – CB – Concord, Calif. – College of the Sequoias

Anderson prepped at Mt. Diablo High School where he was an All-Conference selection in the sports of football, basketball and baseball … he finished his senior season with seven interceptions, 60 tackles and one kick returned for a touchdown … at College of the Sequoias, Anderson was a team captain and finished last season with four interceptions, 15 pass break ups and 70 tackles … he is the son of Derrick and Lateefah Anderson.

Jason Brown – 6-1 – 188 – CB – Stone Mountain, Ga. – Erie CC

Brown attended Redan High School, where he was a three-time football letterman … He was also named All-County and twice named All-State and All-Region … A four-time letter winner in wrestling, he was a two-time state placer,a three- time county finalist and a one- time county champion … He also played soccer and participated in track & field … at Erie CC, he played two seasons, and started in eight games his freshman season … last year as a sophomore, he started all eight games and finished second on the team in tackles, while picking up eight interceptions  and eight pass break ups … He was a first-team All-Region selection and honorable mention All-Conference … He is the son of Will and Keoichaun Brown.

Chris Barnwell – 6-1 – 215 – RB – Savannah, Ga. – Allan Hancock College

Barnwell comes to Southern after a pair of seasons at Allan Hancock College in California … An All-Conference selection this past season, Barnwell played in ten games and had 494 yards and four touchdowns … as a freshman, he racked up 652 yards and added five touchdowns … Barwell prepped at Savannah Christian High School where he was twice named an Offensive Player of the Year, once by the Savannah Morning Times and again named the 3-A (east) Region Player of the Year … He was an All-Conference selection all four seasons, while being named All-Empire three times and was an All-State pick twice … he finished his career by carrying the ball 280 times as a senior, totaling 1,706 yards and 20 touchdowns while missing nearly four full games with an ankle injury … For his career, Barnwell has rushed for over 5,800 yards … He is the son of Joseph and Demetria Barnwell.

Sean Seefeldt – 5-11, 190 – PK – Newfane, NY – Edinboro University

Seefeldt transfers to Southern from Division II Edinboro where he saw action in all 11 games last season as a true freshman … He made 4-11 field goals with a long of 42 yards, while connecting on 34-37 extra points and amassing 2377 yards in kickoffs … Seefeldt prepped at Newfane High School in New York where he was an All-State selection and team MVP … he also was a three-year starter in basketball and participated in track and field … He is the son of Kathie and Garth Seefeldt.

Khiry Crawford – 6-1 – 190 – CB – New Orleans, La. – Highland Park HS

Crawford comes to Southern after a solid prep career at Highland Park High School … this past year, the senior was an All-Conference and All-City pick, while picking up 61 tackles, six pass break ups, three sacks and one interception returned for a touchdown … He played for coaches Toni Canacari and Sadiq Muhammad … Crawford is the son of Sherry Crawford and Chris Ceazer.

Dionne Collier – 6-3 – 215 – WR – Fort Lauderdale, Fla. – St. Thomas Aquinas HS

Collier helped his team to a Florida 7A State Championship as a senior, while picking up All-County honors … Also a decorated track and field athlete, Collier was an All-County selection in the 100m relay and was on the state championship winning relay team as a junior … He is the son of Stacy Carter.
