Joplin, Mo. -- Missouri Southern senior linebacker Alex Wong has been named an Academic All-District selection by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) the organization announced.
Wong's name now goes on to the national ballot for Academic All-America consideration. A second-team Academic All-American last season as a junior, Wong carries a 3.63 GPA in biology and pre-med. To be considered for the honor, a player must maintain at least a 3.30 cumulative GPA, while participating in at least 50 percent of his team's games. Freshman and first-year transfers are not eligible. Wong was competing with players from Schools in the Division II Super Region Three (Great American Conference, MIAA, Northern Sun).
Wong has been a three-year starter for the Lions as a linebacker. One of the leaders on defense, Wong had a team-high 71 tackles this year. In his three-year career, Wong has 175 stops, 81 of them solo, including 5 tackles for a loss, two forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries, as well as six passes broken up.
A native of Vallejo, Calif., Wong is the son of Anthony and Maria Wong.
