Mobile, Ala. - Missouri Southern senior defensive tackle Brandon Williams has been named to the Senior Bowl Watch List as announced by the event today.
The Senior Bowl annual invites the nation's top 100 seniors to participate in the game in Mobile and today, the event released its list of 309 preliminary seniors that they are keeping their eye on.
The list, which is usually dominated by major college football teams from the Bowl Subdivision, features 29 FCS and Division II players, of which, Williams is one of only seven different Division II players to make the cut. He is also one of two from the MIAA as Missouri Western's David Bass was also named to the list.
A preseason All-American pick this year, Williams was named to five different All-America teams (Coaches, AP, Don Hansen, d2football.com and BSN), last season while picking up All-Region honors from the SID's, Daktronics and Don Hansen. He was a unanimous first-team All-MIAA pick in 2011 after being named a pre-season All-American, as well.
Last year, Williams finished third in the MIAA in sacks (8), while ranking second in tackles for a loss. He ranked 13th nationally in tackles for a loss and 19th in sacks. His eight sacks in 2011 is tied for fourth in a single-season, and his 18.5 career sacks rank third all-time. He needs just two to move into second and five to be the all-time sacks leader at Southern.
The Lions begin the 2012 season a week from tonight at 7 pm at the University of Central Oklahoma.
