2011- Kurtz appeared in 6 games for MSSU, snagging 6 catches for 66 yards on the year, including 2 apiece vs. Lincoln and Emporia State.

Prior to Southern - Kurtz played two seasons at the College of DuPage in Illinois where he was a starter and an All-Conference performer both years ... He also set the school record for receptions in a career ... in his final season at DuPage, Kurtz caught 48 passes for 388 yards and three touchdowns. 

In High School - Kurtz prepped at Wheeling High School in Wheeling, Ill. where he played for coach Dave Dunbar and the Wildcats ... a three year starter for Wheeling, Kurtz was an All-Area and All-Conference pick three times on the football field ... He also was a four year starter on the basketball court where he was three-times All-Conference and All-Area, as well as three years on the track. 

Personal - The son of John and Debra Kurtz, James plans to major in kinesiology at Southern.
