In 2010 & 2011: Hackney stepped away from football while competing as a thrower on the MSSU Track and Field Team. 

In 2009: Hackney started every game for the Lions as a redshirt freshman ... played at left tackle and helped the Lions to 1,640 yards rushing and 2,000 yards through the air. 

In 2008: Redshirted for the Lions … Was a standout performer for the Lions’ track and field teams where he was a national qualifier in the shot put.

In High School: Hackney played for coach Brett Gosch at Carl Junction HS   A Two-time first team All-Big 8 Conference lineman; first team Coach s All-District; second team  All-State selection   Also a track athlete at Carl Junction, Hackney was All-Conference and All-State, while picking up a district and sectional title in the shot put   Hackney finished fourth in the Missouri Class 3 State Championships with a distance of 55 feet, one and a quarter inch
