Warrensburg, Mo. -- The Missouri Southern baseball team led early, but the tenth ranked Central Missouri Mules used two separate comebacks to defeat the Lions 11-10 in the series finale today in Warrensburg.
Central (23-5, 18-4 MIAA) led 3-1 after two, but the Lions came back with a three-run third to go up 4-3 after a three-run home run from Sam Ryan.
Southern scored another run in the fourth on an RBI double from MJ Sartin scoring Dane Kolkmeyer. The Lions added two more in the fifth. Jesse Kinzey doubled to left, scoring Cullen Baxter and Tee Helsel singled to right scoring Kinzey.
The Lions led 7-3 going into the bottom of the sixth, but Central plated four runs to tie the score at seven. Southern answered right back and the Lions scored three more in the eighth. Baxter singled home Sartin to start the scoring and Michael McCoy drove in Baxter. Ryan added another RBI with a single scoring McCoy.
The Mules, however, stormed right back and scored four in the bottom half of the inning to go ahead 11-10 and made the lead stick for the win.
Ryan went 3-4 in the game with a home run and a stolen base. He drove in four and scored twice. Luke Acosta, Kinzey, Sartin and Helsel had two hits each, while Acosta and McCoy scored twice.
The Lions will be back in action next weekend with a four-game series at Washburn on Friday and Saturday.
