In high school: Was part of a Carl Junction Bulldog squad that defeated current MSSU head coach Bryce Darnell's Webb City team in the 2007 class three district finals ... competed for Darnell's brother Flave at CJ, where he earned first-team all-conference, all-district, all-area and all-state honors ... was named Big 8 Conference Player of the year this past season ... helped the Bulldogs to district and sectional titles in 2007 ... named as one of the Top 50 High School Baseball Players in America by The Sporting News magazine... according to The Sporting News, "The top Missouri player could be Zak Porath of Carl Junction High. The Missouri Southern recruit earned All-State honors last season when he batted .437. On the mound, Porath sported a 1.15 ERA and set a school record with 121 strikeouts"... also started three seasons for the CJ Football squad and helped lead the Bulldogs to a share of the Big 8 Conference title this past year ... was the Offensive Player of the Year in the Big 8, along with being a first-team all-conference selection as a running back and defensive back and a second-team pick as a punter.
