As a junior: Did a little bit of everything for the Lions in 2009. Led the team with a .381 batting average. Also showed pop in the bat with seven homers and 39 RBI and finished second on the team with 15 doubles. Zach finished first on the team with 31 stolen bases as well. Was recognized by the conference at the end of the season with a Second Team All-MIAA nod.

In junior college: Earned first-team all-conference and all-region during his two seasons at Fort Scott CC ... set school-record with 46 stolen bases.

In high school: Set the Colgan HS single-season records in batting average, stolen bases, runs and on-base percentage ... helped Colgan to three straight championships as a centefielder ... was named first-team all-conference in each of the 2004, 05 and 06 seasons and first-team all-state as a senior ... also was a three-time all-conference selection in football, where he helped Colgan to a pair of state titles as a defensive back and running back ... earned four letters and was an first-team all-state selection as a defensive back and an honorable-mention pick at running back.
