Cross country teams head north for 2013 NCAA Central Region Meet

Joplin, Mo. -- The Missouri Southern men's and women's cross country teams will travel north to Sioux Falls, SD tomorrow to compete in the 2013 NCAA Division II Central Region Meet, hosted by Augustana University. 

Both teams are coming off of solid showings at the 2013 MIAA Championships. The Southern men placed second, just one point behind Central Missouri, while the Lions' women placed fourth.

Dora Eastin paced the Lions with a ninth-place finish to earn All-MIAA honors. She finished the 6k course in a time of 22:11.89.

On the men's side, Eric Schott placed fifth, traversing the 8k course in a time of 24:55.58 to earn All-MIAA honors. Jake Benton finished seventh (25:02.95) while Andrew Webster was ninth (25:10.54) and both earned All-MIAA honors. Adrian Todd was 17th with a time of 25:33.30, while Tyler Rush was 19th in a time of 25:35.24, both earning honorable mention All-MIAA.

The Southern men placed second a season ago at the Region Championships that were held in Joplin. The Lions return nearly all of their scorers from a season ago that saw the team go on to place 8th at the national championships. 

The Lions' women placed fourth in the Central Region Championships last season and went on to place 20th at the National Championships hosted by Southern in Joplin. 

The Southern men are currently ranked third in the latest regional poll and 13th in the Division II national poll. 

The women's 6k race begins at 10:30 am and the men's 10k begins at 11:30 am.
